BiogrAPHY
Janine Saul’s practice investigates the tension between control and intuition, movement and stillness, surface and depth. Through challenging the traditional screen-printing and dyeing process, she has cultivated an experimental practice creating abstract form-focused, textural, and layered outcomes that question contradictions and commonalities.
She graduated from The University of Arts London Chelsea College with a Distinction BA in Textile Design during this time she participated in a 6-month exchange program at the Fashion Institute of Technology New York. Saul’s practice recontextualizes textile craft in a contemporary context, drawing from her hands-on study of contemporary and ancient printing techniques in South America, India and Africa.
Her first solo exhibition, She Transient Dance, took place at Villa Lena in 2022. She has installed her work in remote locations like Spirits of The Water in Palenque Jungle Mexico 2021 and La Madre Amazonas in the Amazon Bolivia 2024. Her work has been included in group exhibitions including the Future Stars at The Holy Art Gallery Athens, The Holy Art Gallery London 2023 and The Other Art Fair in London 2024. Janine Saul completed residencies at Oharah-Kobu (Kyoto, Japan) and Villa Lena (Tuscany, Italy). Saatchi Art named her as an artist to watch among its 2024 Rising Stars article.
