This piece came from a brief from a private client to create a work with the intention of a fierce but soft work. Something bold, colourful and courageous with sharp edges but also nurturing and soft like the ocean.

The spirit of the cat - Independence, curiosity and mystery

'“the cats emblem of wisdom reveals in particular the courage to discover the unknown and good timing in the things we accomplish. Those with the cat as their spirit animal may be encourages to create a balance between independence and moments of companionship.

harmonious relationships between light and dark, activity and analytical thinking are also attributes of the cats mind.”

The cat resembles a space between 2 things, independent but also engaging and playful.

Curios but also sensitive and selective.

Mysterious but also alluring, explorative and adventurous.

Balance between 2 things

The totem of the cat energy came very strong in this piece as what was asked for in the brief was something bold but soft, colourful but reserved, sharpe but nurturing and courageous but also attentive and slow.

Which is this dance between two things that are the same but opposite sides of a coin. The mastery of the cat is that it dances on both sides of the coin in an angelic and clear way.

The cat is one not to be messed with, the cat is a very clear animal that knows its direction and does not get wavered by distractions on the path. When the cat knows where it needs to go, it will make its way there and it will accomplish its tasks timely, patiently and in good fashion.

The cat shows discipline, structure and alignment with an authority of time. Whilst at the same time has a very playful, fun and attractive nature that allures people in.

Central point

In this piece there is the central part of the work that is the focal, it is where the two sides of the symmetry meet and interact with each other. In this part there is a sharp harmony, where 2 points of the same elements cross each other and seamlessly connect.

This part comes as a strong message that usually we have 2 sides of a coin which are seemly different based on external factors but actually hold the elements of the same thing.

This point draws to the idea that 2 things that can seem completely opposite are actually one and different.

When seen as one and different they come together in a harmonious way rather than in the way of their differences. They come together in a unique way that is only defined by the nature of themselves and is not something that can be created or made up. It just is as it is.

This is the magic of the mystery of the cat. It just is as it is, the mastery of all parts of one whole. Complete and perfect. Working together symbiotically.

2 points either side

There are also 2 asymmetrical boxes that appeared in their own nature on either side of the piece. These 2 points emphasise the message of 2 sides of the same coin, which manifest differently externally but internally are the sam thing.

The point of dynamic

The point of dynamic is very strong in this piece, what came throughout the process is that all points, parts and aspects are in dynamic with one another.

The element of dynamic doesn’t rely on all parts being the same but that all parts are uniquely different but working together as a whole.

In this way we see how everything in this piece connects even if it is not directly related or directly connected, each part is connected in the way it moves, the conversation is creates and the symbiosis that comes with it in this piece.

Another point that appeared in this piece was the spirit of the bat, this came through very strong and in relation to the great mystery.

The spirit of the bat- the great mystery

The spirit of the bat is related to something that relys on the great mystery of the night, bats are out during the nightly hours and similarity to cats they are connected to the mysterious realm of life.

This symbolism also brought great depth to this piece through it not only appearing once but twice, the way I see it, it points to the elements which cannot be comprehended by the intellectual mind but something beyond.

It points to mystery that so many things in the invisible, obscure space are connected, things we cannot see or perceive. But when the points start to join together in their abstract ways we can start to see the larger picture.

For me this was a big part of the process with this piece, as the many parts that work together as a whole, came in an abstract way and put me deep in the process of trust. In this process the way all the different points and parts connected was mystical and through the obscure workings of the sprit of the bat and cat, they all came together in a interesting, harmonious and clear way.
